The advisors and chairs of the 2013 Ken®vention are busy creating a unique experience that awaits attendees. This year’s theme, The Carson Boys-Mystery Weekend promises to have loads of twists and turns (and secret passages), as attendees try to solve the mystery at Sherwood Mansion.

Sponsored by our club, the 2013 Ken®vention is being held in Brookfield, Wisconsin October 10-12, 2013. The convention events officially start on Thursday evening with an ill-fated Fraternity Fundraiser Welcome Reception, then off to gather clues at the Sherwood Mansion Mystery Dinner on Friday evening, and then the mystery will be solved Saturday evening with The Carson Boys-Mystery Weekend Dinner event.

The premise of the 2013 Ken®vention is a cross between a Hardy Boys mystery novel and the board game Clue®. Attendees “search” for Allan™ who disappears after a fraternity party. Foul play? Why yes, of course…and attendees become “helper detectives” by looking for visual or written “clues” and checking them off on a detective check-list. The check-list contains: fraternity brother suspects, possible weapons inside the mansion and the Sherwood mansion rooms you will explore. Clues will be everywhere: in a story that sets up the background of the mystery (part one is in the registration packet) and both the 2013 Ken®vention website and Yahoo group. But the adventure really begins at the 2013 Ken®vention…when attendees begin entering the rooms of Sherwood mansion. If you are keeping count…four of the possible 32 clues have already been “revealed”. More may be coming in new chapters of the story that will be published in the 2013 Ken®vention Yahoo group periodically before the start of the start of 2013 Ken®vention in October.

The theme this year was decided on by a club member focus group about a year ago. “Naturally, I was thrilled because I have always wanted to experience a mystery-themed convention and the events were easy to imagine.” said Jef Beck, a 2013 Ken®vention advisor. “We knew going in it was going to be hard topping the 2012 Ken®vention theme and souvenirs, but I am just going to say that we are well on our way in doing just that! It will be an incredible experience that also combines elements of surprise and intrigue. The conventioneers will be trying to guess who, where and with what up to the very end!”

Exclusive to club members, the 2013 Ken®vention committee will divulge one clue at the 2013 HAD Annual meeting. The clue will only be viewable by club members attending the meeting. And to get you really ready to solve the mystery, the committee is also sharing the room banner design for the meeting early…which among everything else at this year’s 2013 Ken®vention …holds a clue for you. You can view the banner on the HAD Yahoo group…look for the announcement shortly after we publish the spring 2013 newsletter! You’ll have to wait till October at the annual meeting to get the other exclusive clue.
